20 Best Wingers In The World Right Now

Leandro Trossard

The Best Left And Right Wingers

Football used to be an easy game. In the past, the ball was kicked out to the adept wingers, who did their thing and occasionally crossed the ball for a large target man to score.

The term “left winger” has taken on many forms throughout the years, from the smooth Brazilian to the blunt Englishman. With the roles these players play being wholly contingent on the systems in which they are involved, the variance in winger profiles has only increased in the modern era.

Nowadays, there are more gray areas when it comes to being a left winger. Yet, these players want to amuse the general public, and the game is now endowed with a wealth of skill.

10. Leandro Trossard

In 2010, Trossard was transferred from the Bocholt academy to the K.R.C. Genk junior program. He was promoted to the senior team in 2012, and on May 13, 2012, he made his league debut against K.A.A. Gent. . He only played just three minutes in the league that season. He was constantly loaned out for numerous seasons.

Not much was made of Leandro Trossard’s Brighton arrival in 2019 and the unassuming Belgian has continued to go under the radar on the south coast.

Trossard showed his ability in flashes during his first three seasons at the AMEX but started his fourth in incredible fashion, scoring plenty under both Graham Potter and new arrival Roberto De Zerbi.

He’s a proven goal threat and could also have a large role to play in Belgium’s 2022 World Cup campaign.

On 20 January 2023, Arsenal announced the signing of Trossard on a long-term contract. The fee consisted of a guaranteed £20 million, and around a further £7 million in net potential add-ons.

9. Gabriel Martinelli

Gabriel Martinelli is one of the very few good things to come out of the Unai Emery era at Arsenal.

The winger was signed from Brazilian minnows Ituano to little fanfare in 2018, but he showed during his debut season in England that the Gunners might have stumbled upon a diamond in the rough.

Gabriel Martinelli stands out among other Premier League youngsters because of his goals, tenacity, and flair for the extraordinary this season, which have made him one of the Premier League’s top players. He clearly cares deeply about the team, as seen by his relentless efforts and the pure joy on his face everytime he scores. The latter is starting to occur almost weekly now. Not simply a terrific player at age 21 but a fantastic player period.

Gabriel Martinelli

8. Leroy Sane

Sane has endured some harsh treatment in his own nation after shining in the Premier League as a young player. With his speed and directness, the Germany international was anticipated to annihilate Bundesliga full-backs, but since coming to Germany in 2020, he has struggled with injuries and conditioning. He does, however, appear more incisive this season. He has been able to replicate some of his finest form because of the fierce battle for a spot in the team that another player on this list has caused. May that go on forever.

Leroy Sane

7. Rafael Leao

Rafael Leao’s place as one of the top left wingers in the world is without a doubt unquestionable after he contributed significantly to AC Milan’s Scudetto victory last season.

He has 10 goals and 11 assists in 34 league games, making him the current Serie A MVP.

The Portuguese international regularly overwhelms defenses with his lightning-quick, gazelle-like stride. He is an aggressive ball carrier who has become a celebrity at San Siro.

Rafael Leao

6. Sadio Mane

Maybe Sadio Mane is the on of the best football player in the world. While he prefers to use his right foot, he can also use his left, his head, or any other portion of his body to get the pass, shot, cross, or other action that his team needs. With his speed, physicality, cunning, and exceptional understanding of the game around him, he is the ideal offensive weapon.

Although he has made a strong start to the season for his new team Bayern, he has not yet reached the levels that Premier League supporters know he is capable of. The German juggernauts may once again prove unstoppable this term once he begins firing at full force.

Sadio Mane

5. Phil Foden

Foden is typically used on the left of City’s attack, where his foraging runs and shrewd movement cause havoc, even if his optimal position is, in some strange way, still yet to be defined over the long term. Foden, who is only 22 years old, has quickly established himself as one of Pep Guardiola’s most reliable forwards and is invariably started in the biggest Premier League and Champions League games. He has the ability to develop his budding connection with striker Erling Haaland into one of English football’s greatest duos. Although Foden hasn’t yet replicated his finest performances for England, it feels more and more like his country is failing him than the other way around. It won’t be long until he makes sense of things on an intentional level.

Phil Foden

4. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

The Georgian superstar, who joined Napoli in the summer, has already earned the moniker “Kvaradona.”

Kvaratskhelia has had a brilliant start to the 2022–23 season, and his admirers are confident that he will quickly develop into his own rendition of the recently deceased Lorenzo Insigne.

While Kvaradona significantly differs in style from his Italian predecessor, he quickly became a fan favorite because to his straight running, spontaneous temperament, and love of entertainment. He’s a winger who is immensely fascinating to watch because of his unpredictable play and versatility in possession, which have contributed significantly to his rapid ascent.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

3. Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford appeared to be bound for fame at one stage. Rashford’s senior career sprang into the forefront after making his Premier League debut and scoring twice against Arsenal.

He immediately became an England international and scored at least 10 Premier League goals per season for three straight years.

Rashford’s performance suffered significantly, but since Erik ten Hag has moved into Old Trafford, he has been inspired. While he might never develop into the superstar that many originally predicted, he is already making progress toward restarting his Premier League career.

Rashford excels at slipping past defenses and poses a real danger on the counterattack.

Marcus Rashford

2. Neymar JR

Although if Neymar is no longer the young man who, when playing for Santos, broke the internet years ago, he is still a footballer who makes his fans happy.

Neymar was partly pushed out of the spotlight domestically after his historic transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, with the bulk of supporters evaluating the Brazilian’s legacy based on his accomplishments in the Champions League.

Many will point out that PSG did not win a European championship during the Galacticos era, but we shouldn’t ignore Neymar’s brilliant run as Les Parisiens advanced to the 2020 final. Neymar’s season would have gone down as one of the finest individual seasons in competition history had PSG defeated Bayern in Lisbon.

The The Brazilian has missed a lot of games in previous years due to physical issues, but his performance in 2022 has been nothing short of mesmerizing. This season, Christophe Galtier has given him unrestricted freedom to cause havoc off the left, and he performs better as a dynamic inside forward than a winger.

Neymar JR

1.Vinicius JR

Vinicius Jr, a flurry of speed, amazing balance, and deception, was always destined for greatness. He led Real Madrid to the Champions League title last year by scoring the game-winning goal against Liverpool in the championship match. He has now succeeded in doing so. Since he doesn’t provide Luka Modric and Toni Kroos with a target to shoot for, Real are a significantly less intimidating proposition without him. His quickness and directness make him the ideal counterbalance to Karim Benzema’s bulkier center presence.

Vinicius has always been an electric winger who’s capable of producing moments of brilliance, but his maturation last season has thrust the Brazilian into another realm. He’s arguably the best out-and-out winger in the world.

The purposeful stage is the only obstacle he has left to overcome. Although he frequently starts for Brazil, Neymar—who is still regarded as the nation’s Patriarch—often fills his best position.

10. Angel Di Maria

Manchester United spell aside, Angel Di Maria has been playing at an elite level for over a decade.

Angel Di Maria was always a top-tier talent with unlimited potential and he has had no shortage of success on the club level, winning nearly every trophy possible after moving to Europe from Rosario Central. But on the international level, he was one of the key figures in recent years who was not able to get over the hump with an Argentina national team that felt a massive weight of pressure from the entire country on their shoulders after all of the final losses.

Di Maria had a secondary role at PSG. He wasn’t as productive as Kylian Mbappe or as majestic with the ball as Neymar, but he made sure PSG’s ego-driven assault was balanced and contributed underappreciably to their run to the 2020 Champions League final.

Angel Di Maria

9. Raphinha

Delightful Angel Di Maria. Raphinha left Leeds in the summer after a fantastic two years because the stylistic parallels to the beautiful Argentine are too obvious to ignore.

Other elite Premier League teams pursued the Brazilian, but the Catalans prevailed in the fiercely contested competition for his services.

Raphinha is so technically skilled that he can control the pace of the action from his wide stance. While he is physically capable of defeating his opponent in a variety of methods, he likes to drift inside and make from a more central location.

The Brazilian international was outstanding at Elland Road under Marcelo Bielsa, and Xavi will definitely make the most of his abilities there.

Raphinha

8. Serge Gnabry

The German international was once regarded as the world’s most dangerous winger, particularly in London. Serge Gnabry’s nefarious fury was felt by Tottenham and Chelsea in the 2019–20 campaign as Bayern Munich won the Champions League as a result of the former Arsenal winger’s outstanding play.

Even while Gnabry is still among the best wingers in the world, he may not have followed up his outstanding year in the way that many anticipated. The German seems destined to participate in discussions about the “greatest player in the world,” and while he clearly isn’t far off, his name has somewhat slipped from the mainstream football lexicon.

Serge Gnabry

7. Rodrygo

Since joining Real Madrid in 2019, Rodrygo has frequently been outperformed by fellow countryman and colleague Vinicius Junior, but that doesn’t mean the Brazilian hasn’t created some significant moments of his own.

Rodrygo hasn’t quite attained the same high accolades as Vinicius, who is rightfully recognized as one of the finest left wingers in the world as a result of his recent development in the final third. Nonetheless, the former Santos prodigy has the ability to become a superstar in the future.

Rodrygo is a skilled technician who has a variety of one-on-one strategies to defeat opponents. The Brazilian has predatory instincts in the box and is excellent at making space for himself in the final third, but lacking exceptional physicality and athleticism.

Rodrygo

6. Antony

Antony may have cost Manchester United far more than expected, but that doesn’t mean he can’t develop into one of the top right wingers in the world.

When the Brazilian scored on his United debut against Arsenal in a 3-1 triumph, he had an immediate effect at Old Trafford. He displayed some of his (sometimes needless) samba flare in the victory, and he is a player who will undoubtedly make an effort to amuse the home crowd each and every week.

Antony

5. Ousmane Dembele

One of the world’s most talented footballers, Ousmane Dembele hasn’t yet achieved the dizzying heights to which he was once predestined due to injuries and inconsistent play.

The mysterious winger’s tenure at Barcelona has been tremendously disappointing, but Xavi’s hiring gave him reason for optimism. The former player identified Dembele’s extraordinary skill and has integrated him into the core of his Catalan ambition. Dembele is thus having his finest stretch of play while wearing a Barcelona jersey.

His boss has compared him to Neymar due to his outstanding play, and if he can stay off the physio’s bench at Camp Nou, there’s little question the Frenchman could develop into a player of the Brazilian’s stature.

Ousmane Dembele

4. Bukayo Saka

When Gigi Donnarumma stopped Bukayo Saka’s penalty kick at the age of 19, Italy won the Euros. He received a flood of insults, but Arsenal’s star player answered by leading the Gunners in scoring in 2021–2022.

It was nothing short of magnificent how he recovered from what was unquestionably the most trying time of his early senior career thus far. Saka has been fantastic for Arsenal ever since Unai Emery gave him his debut in 2018. He was also brilliant for England at Euro 2020.

He has swiftly matured and developed into one of the top right wingers in the entire globe. While Mikel Arteta frequently isolates Saka down the right, he is capable of controlling his side by himself.

Bukayo Saka

3. Federico Valverde

Federico Valverde, a center midfielder by profession, has established himself at Real Madrid as a winger.

In that he is a worker who tucks infield and annoys opponents constantly out of possession, the Uruguayan is very different from the stereotypical wide man.

Valverde is forced into a new role by Madrid’s outstanding midfield, which has just been revitalized by French stars Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelian Tchouameni, but it’s a role in which he excels.

Federico Valverde

2. Mohamed Salah

There isn’t a “winger” in the world who is more merciless in front of goal than Mo Salah. The Liverpool star may not have the two-footedness of Son Heung-min or the grace and elegance of Riyad Mahrez.

The rapid rise of the Egyptian at Anfield is undoubtedly one of the most important causes in Liverpool’s success under Jürgen Klopp, but there have been many other variables. Salah’s first Premier League season was, to put it mildly, a failure, but his second campaign catapulted him into superstardom.

Since joining Liverpool, he has scored an incredible 32, 22, 19, 22 and 23 goals in the Premier League. He has won the Golden Boot twice, and his talent for putting on fantastic performances will only get better.

Mohamed Salah

1. Lionel Messi

This man’s grandeur cannot be adequately expressed in words.

Of course, there will be others who disagree, but Lionel Messi is the best there has ever been and likely ever will be.

During his first season in Paris, the tiny magician had a “poor” year by his Own standards, but things are back to normal at the start of 2022–2023. Of course, Messi is no longer a right winger in the mold of his youthful self, but Christophe Galtier is using him in a front three a la the Harlem Globetrotters off to the right.

Nonetheless, the Argentine has earned the right to essentially do whatever he pleases in the French capital. He remains completely amazing.
